Nobility

At the top of each House stands the High Lord or High Lady, the ruling head of the family. Their direct blood heirs and closest kin use the titles Sir, Dame, or Thaeyd. All in this family are called the Glorious Lineage.

Below them are six positions known as the Sacred Guardians, men or women who govern over the Glorious Lingeage’s domain and help advise the High Lord. While oftentimes members of  the Sacred Guardians are descendents of the Glorious Lineage, they can also be made up of trusted family members or loyal allies, granted the title by royal decree.  

• Master of Revels – Oversees culture, traditions, festivals, and social events.

• True Sage – Responsible for education, scholarship, alchemy, and knowledge.

• First Inquisitor – Handles espionage, intelligence, subterfuge, and security.

• Grand Marshal – Commands the House’s military forces and defenses.

• Voice of Reason – Manages political influence, diplomacy, and negotiations.

• Gold Warden – Controls wealth, trade, resources, and economic matters.

Finally, there are the lesser nobles and landed folk who serve the House:

• Oathsworn – Knights or retainers who have sworn a formal oath of loyalty to the House.

• Reeve – Administrators and soldiers who assist the Oathsworn.

• Oathlings — Squires in service to Oathsworn, training to become Oathsworn in time.

It is custom for poetic heralds to string together the many titles of the nobility when announcing them. Thus, one example is: High Lord and Grand Marshal of Castle Daybreak, Seventh to sit upon the throne of the Red Eagle, Zandran Darkner of Evermoor, the Brutal and Unforgiving, head of his Glorious Lineage.

Whereas lesser nobles may be heralded as: Oathsworn of House Darkner, Alexandra Mareys of Greenglade. Or, Reeve to House Darkner, Adam Gavell.
